今朝のgoogleトレンドは「#シロイルカ スパイ」が気になったさ〜。なんでも、ノルウェー沖で見つかったシロイルカが死んじゃったって話だわけ。
このシロイルカ、2019年にノルウェーの漁師に見つかったときから有名になったんだよ。なんでかって？このイルカ、カメラを付けられるハーネスを着けていて、そこに「サンクトペテルブルクの装備」って書いてあったんだわけ。これがロシアのスパイじゃないかって、大騒ぎになったみたいさ〜。
イルカのスパイって、なんだか映画の「スパイファミリー」に出てくる可愛いワンちゃん「ボンド」みたいに聞こえるけど、実際は厳しい世界で働く動物なんだわけ。これからおじいがどんなスパイ活動するか説明するね〜。
まずね、イルカはその優れたエコロケーション能力を活かして、海の中で敵の潜水艦やドローンを探す訓練を受けることが多いんだわけ。音波を出して、それが反射してくる音で物体を見つけるんだよ。それから、時には海中に仕掛けられた機雷や爆発物の場所を見つけて安全にするためのお手伝いもしているわけよ。
そしてね、敵のダイバーを見つけて追尾したり、軍事施設を守る役割もあるわけ。賢いイルカたちだからこそできる仕事さ〜。海辺の人も、イルカを見ると癒されるけど、こういった側面があるんだね〜。
さて、このイルカたちの歴史的な役割を考えるとき、戦場での動物たちの運命には心が痛むね〜。ロシアやアメリカなど、いくつかの国では長らく生物兵器や軍用動物として、いろいろな動物が使われてきたわけ。人間の技術と動物の自然の能力の組み合わせれば、すごいことができるけど、戦争時の倫理観は崩壊してるとはいえ、技術の使い方よ。
まとめに入るけど、このシロイルカのスパイ問題も、賢いイルカが巻き込まれる現実を見て、なんともやるせない気持ちになるね。
結局のところ、イルカにスパイ活動させるより、人間同士で理解し合うことの方が大切じゃないかな。イルカたちには、青い海で自由に泳いでもらうのが一番だわけ。そうすれば、みんなが笑顔になれるはず。
